Huawei P40 Pro Plus features 6.58″ OLED display, Kirin 990 5G chipset, 4200 mAh battery, 512 GB storage, 8 GB RAM.
It seems like 2020 is going to be a year of best camera smartphone and beefy hardware. The phone is similar to the Huawei P40 Pro and it is available with matte or glass option. Huawei has moved from reinforced glass from P40 Pro to Nanotech ceramic. The material feels nice; it is harder than glass which means it is more scratch resistance, the essential phone had the same material. The material on the P40 Pro plus is more conductive, it can dissipate heat more efficiently which helps to keep the temps under control.
The Huawei P40 Pro Plus comes with two color options White Ceramic, Black Ceramic. Here the design choices are a bit limited you either get a black option or white and it is only available in the shiny finish and you cannot get it in the black.
The Huawei P40 Pro Plus is constructed with ceramic material instead of glass and the important thing is ceramic is tougher than glass and it should be more resistant to scratches which adds to that super-premium feel. The design is similar to the Huawei P40 Pro.
You still have that overflow display which feels almost bezel-free and it looks amazing. The Huawei P40 Pro Plus has the IP68 water and dust resistance. Cloning old devices to the new ones is simple with the Huawei phones.

The Huawei P40 Pro Plus has got the Motion UI 10.1 on top of Android 10. The in-display fingerprint is very fast and responsive and facial recognition also works very fast. The IR sensor recognizes your face in low light conditions.
The quad curved display is 6.58 inches OLED 441 PPI density with 1200 x 2640 pixels and it comes with the 90Hz refresh rate by default. We believe that the 90Hz refresh rate is the sweet spot and we don’t believe in the standards. Whatever looks and feels good to your eyes is the standard we believe and the display on this phone looks stunning.
There is no stereo speaker available on this phone, it uses the vibration motor to translate your phone calls. No headphone jack either, you might want to grab Bluetooth headphones and dongles for earphones.
For the performance side of things, you have Kirin 990 5G with 7NM with 8GB RAM and 512GB UFS 3.0 storage. If you still feel that the storage is less for your 4K videos, then you can expand the storage with Huawei’s proprietary NM cards with up to 256GB.
To handle your daily tasks like media and gaming you have 4200 mAh battery with 40W supercharge. The 40W charging is no joke and it even gets 40W wireless charging support as well. You can reverse charge your wireless devices with Huawei P40 Pro Plus.
The camera module is bigger than the P40 Pro. This phone comes with 7 cameras on it 5 on the back and 2 on the front.
The camera features 5 lenses from Leica optics and it reminds me of the Lumia phones from Nokia back in days. The primary lens on this phone is the same on the Huawei P40 Pro which comes with the large 1/1.28″ 50MP f/1.9, 23mm Quad-Bayer sensor with an RYYB filter that produces 12MP image output. This provides larger pixels that give you improved low light performance and it is impressive in the HDR situation too.
The face detection photodiode focus tech also serves premium photos even when focused on the fast-moving subjects. The camera app is completely feature-packed with master AI mode to suit your photography. You can change the settings recording to a particular subject- Moving images, Portrait mode.
The portrait mode uses the depth sensor from 5 lenses to create a bokeh style effect. The Huawei’s dedicated night mode outputs bright shots even in low light situations. The Pro mode gives you the manual controls and some cool other features like panorama, light painting, dual view, Slow-Mo, monochrome, time-lapse.
The camera app also features the AR lens and the AR mods here look peculiar and it needs improvements. Apart from the 50MP wide lens the P40 Pro also supports 8 MP, f/4.4 periscope telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom, and 8 MP, f/2.4 with 3x optical zoom telephoto lens.
The P40 Pro Plus has the first dual optical telephoto camera system available on a smartphone, combined these two lenses you have up to 240MM zoom range. The ultra-wide-angle lens 40 MP, f/1.8 which can also be found on the original P40 Pro.
To achieve the 10x optical zoom and to achieve magnification you need distance between the sensor and the lens. The problem with smartphones is that you don’t have the physical depth to create such distance.
The companies have found a way and it is to create a periscope system, the light comes in through the lens gets reflected internally and then hits the sensor.
To hit the 10X zoom you need to create more distance for the light to travel between the lens and the sensor. Huawei has created a completely new system that bends the path of the light five times within the body of the phone.
Taking a video at 10X magnification without compromising the video quality itself is the clever piece of engineering.
For the selfie, you have the 32MP with a dual-lens with including the time of flight lens which is perfect for portrait selfies. The portrait mode comes with the beauty mode and some other cool effects. You can shoot up to 4K with 60 Fps with that front-facing camera. The Huawei P40 Pro Plus has four main features.
Undoubtedly, the P40 Pro Plus is the camera king and Huawei has made some improvements on the software side. The AI is clever enough to remove glass reflection from an image and it can remove unwanted passers-by if they accidentally photo-bomb your shot.
The P40 Pro Plus comes with the EMUI 10.1 build on top of the Android 10 but sadly there’s no Google Play Services.
The P40 Pro Plus doesn’t support the 120Hz display and comes with the 90Hz. The 90Hz refresh rate feels very smooth and pleasant to the eyes. There is only one missing feature in this smartphone and that is Google Services.
The Huawei P40 Pro Plus is Priced at $1399 and in India it is priced at Rs.1,17,490.
