The Sony Xperia 1 II has all the things required for a modern-day smartphone, including the 21:9 aspect ratio, IP 68 water, and dust resistance, expandable storage, and a headphone jack.
As a tech company, Sony has been in every tech segment starting from PlayStation, Cameras, TVs, headphones, Speakers, and so on. With such a wide variety of gadgets and experiences, we always wanted Sony to do something out of the box with smartphones but Sony always disappointed us. That led Sony to lost its share in the smartphone segment. Last year Sony introduced the smartphone with a 21:9 aspect ratio.
Sony revealed Xperia 1 with a 21:9 aspect ratio and had a 4K display last year. Sony took a different approach to look at the screen aspect ratio of Xperia 1. The smartphone comes with the triple camera setup with 12+12+12 MP and 8MP for the selfie camera. 6.5″ 4K HDR OLED display, 3330mah battery, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, and IP 65/68 rating. This phone is 5G compatible.
The camera setup of this device was centered at the back.
The phone was completely marketed towards its 21:9 aspect ratio and it was called 21:9 CinemaWide with Dolby atmos. Speaker and USB Type C at the bottom which is capable of fast charging. The Xperia 1 came with the side-mounted fingerprint scanner, dedicated camera shutter button, and volume rocker.
Let’s talk about the Xperia 1 II or you can call it mark 2. The phone has a really tall display and this means you can watch movies in their natural aspect ratio.
This smartphone comes with the tool which lets you multitask apps by splitting the screen in half. We assumed that the 4K display of this phone will hamper battery life but this phone has a solid battery. The battery of this phone will last you for 24 hrs with 6 hrs straight screen on time.
The Xperia 1 II comes with the 21W charging support and Sony needs to improve its charging capacity at least 30W.
The phone looks nice, the overall design is nice just like old Xperia devices.
Fingerprint scanner is located on the right side of the phone and it works as the power button as well. Dedicated camera button which is very reliable, to operate the camera you need to half-press it for focus and full press it to take the image.

Sony Xperia 1 II Camera.
Let’s talk about the hot topic of this phone and that is the camera.
Sony wanted to offer similar features like the Sony A9 which is a sports and wildlife photography camera. Sony managed to bring its feature to the smartphone which is 20 fps burst mode.
You get 12 MP Wide, 12 MP Telephoto, and 12 MP Ultrawide lenses on this phone. Sony intelligently put these lenses to this phone which will take awesome photos. In order to achieve that 20Fps burst mode Sony used the 12 MP sensor and avoided the bigger sensor.
The main sensor on this phone takes better shots which is 12 MP 24mm. The camera results are very good, Sony didn’t tweak the camera experience with the software. Due to that photos look nice, the sharpening and saturation.
The overall camera experience is good including the colors and sharpness of the photos. The photos taken by the telephoto lens are a little soft and that is because of the sensor size of the telephoto camera.
Telephoto lens is small and that leads to lesser light exposure on the lens and that leads to the increased ISO and adds noise reduction. The wide sensor is good for color but it looks washed out and it doesn’t feel wide as a wide sensor should be. The camera system on this phone does not handle the HDR effect.
The major disappointment is the front-facing camera, the photos look very soft, but in the good lighting conditions, it looks nice. The selfie camera also happens to capture the lens flares which feels annoying.
This whole camera thing is incomplete without the pro apps that Sony made for this smartphone. The Photo Pro app and the Cinema Pro app.
The photo pro app is designed to emulate the Sony A9 camera. The UI is a bit confusing but after some time you get used to it. The important thing about this camera app is that it gives you overall better control of the image that you’re trying to capture.
This app also allows you to switch lenses as per your need, just another way to emulate the A9 camera. The Photo Pro app operates in the landscape mode by default. The Cinema Pro app is similar to the Photo Pro app. The Photo Pro app emulates the Sony A9 camera and the Cinema Pro app emulates the Sony FS camera.

The Sony FS camera is the cinema line of the camera. This app lets you change the frame rate, shutter angle. Basically, you can shoot a movie on your smartphone. If you don’t understand this all technical camera app thing don’t worry sony offers the regular camera apps as well.
